The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This striking cabinet is in good condition overall. There are some marks, dents, minor losses and abrasions as to be expected with age and use. As indicated in the catalogue description the cabinet in 19th century incorporating some earlier 17th century panels and later 20th century panels to the interior of the niches for the architectural surround for example and the door pediment. The gilt putti finials are probably later additions. The backboards to the stand and cabinet are very consistent suggesting that they were made together. The cabinet feet with losses and evidence of old, apparently inactive woodworm. Minor hairline shrinkage to the ebony sides of the cabinet and to the ebony panels to the top of of the stand. The drawers all have sprung locks but the key is lacking and a replacement would need to be sourced in order to use them. The drawers were examined at cataloguing and are mostly lined with marbled paper. Rubbing and tarnishing to the gilt mounts and escutcheons.
The small drawer above the central cabinet foot with paper label. The left frieze drawer to the stand with the Swedish pencil inscription to the base.
The finials and five drawer superstructure to the cabinet detach for shipping. The cabinet rests of the stand and therefore also separates easily for shipping.
