Tulpenpokal appeared circa 1650 in the Netherlands and Germany. Sigmund Bierfreund (1654-1702) produced several examples now in the collections of the Nürnberg Museum (dated 1673) and the Nordiska Museum, Stockholm (dated circa 1661-64) see Nürnberger Goldschmiedekunst 1541-1868, Nürnberg, 2007, vol. 2, p. 882, figs. 453 and 454.
The central element of the stem could be a flower or a figure, in this instance an angel holding a palm branch which symbolises victory of the spirit over flesh and our birth into heaven, eternal life.
