Lot Essay

This elegant commode is largely modelled on a commode attributed to Adam Weisweiler (1744-1820), made for the Empress Marie Louise's bedroom at the château de Compiègne (inventory no. C46020). A popular subject of reinterpretation by the great makers of the later 19th century, a similar model with some variations in the design was produced by Henry Dasson and is illustrated in C. Mestdagh, 'L'Ameublement d'art Français 1850-1900', Paris, 2010, p. 253, Fig. 294.
