The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Overall in good condition with marks and wear commensurate with age and use. Not a true pair but matched as catalogued, but the stands very similar as is the unrestored condition of each globe.
The terrestrial with thicker varnish, small hole (15 x 15mm) with loss off coast of Japan, a few other marks and chips ot varnish with very little loss to cartography. Cartouche with 1799 pasted over correct date of 1841. More loss of varnish to horizon ring, which has a very thick varnish with heavy craquelure. One horizon arc missing decorative elements. Usual marks and chips to wood from use, lacking compass.One turned wood decoration missing from leg. Ceramic rollers to feet possibly later addition.
The celestial with some loss of varnish and paper staining, large area (295 x 210mm) near Leo with striped apprerance (from water?). Missing hour ring to north pole, the horizon ring with heavy chipping to varnish and staining of paper. The stand lower than terrestrial, the arcs with no decorative elements at junction with horizon ring. One decorative element missing from base of leg. Wooden rollers to feet probably later addition. No compass.
