The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The pile has areas of localised wear which at times rests at the level of the knot collar or a little beneath revealing the structure beneath. These areas occur mostly at one end of the field which has greyed a little in colour, but also in localised patches in the border. There is a light localised corrosion within the shaded rust orange. There is an overall surface dirt which will lift with a professional clean. A professional clean will also improve a number of small dirt marks and surface stains in the ivory field which appear to be dried dirt of some kind. Where the carpet remains in its fullest pile in the lower end border, the colours appear lighter in tone as there is a soft lustre to the wool and a more cream tone to the field and leafy vine within the border. There is some localised repiling that can be found in the red ground of the upper border, and within three of the palmettes in the field. The largest is in the upper central flowerhead and measures approximately 10cm. in diameter, and there is a further small irregular patch of repiling in the upper end border towards the centre. Overall the repiling covers no more than 3% of the carpet but appears marginally lighter in tone and is more visble on the reverse than on the face of the carpet. The selvages are original and are fraying in a couple of small spots, which can be easily remedied. Each end is original and secured. Once cleaned, this carpet will in fair condition and is of manageable size making it good for furnishing.
