Lot Essay

Chittrovanu Mazumdar uses style as subject matter often vacillating between the realms of naturalism and abstraction within a single work. In this monumental five-panel painting, Mazumdar juxtaposes text and the human body against an Abstract Expressionistic backdrop. Stylistically reminiscent of David Salle and the early combines of Robert Rauschenberg, Mazumdar situates his images on the canvas with a spatial disposition attributed as much to collage as painting.
