Lot Essay

Sang Huoyao's works make us aware of and feel as sense another contemporary metaphor. When standing in front of his ink painting works, we may step into a transparent, fictional as well as real space full of imagined real blocks of color. As a painted darkness, it makes the light and our being appear more clearly: in a flash of self-clearance, of self-awareness, of visibility and freedom, of the essence of art and human being, of all things, materially as well as spiritually. It is a celebration of a painting. An exhibition likes a chapel through the power of images, through the condensed atmosphere of the brutalist space and also through the abandonment of an exclusionary religious symbolism in favor of an aesthetic-spiritual invitation: here is a special place and an “affective-imagoism art” in mind established.
