TheLiving SilkSeries was inspired by the human behavior of killing chrysalides in their silkworm cocoons during the process of metamorphosis. People break in the growing silkworms and strive for their vital material, to own one of the symbols of material civilization, the raw silk.
Reeling off the Raw Silk is the theme of the Series. In the work of theLiving Silk-17, some of the latitude threads were removed in the middle of a piece of silk and embroidered with the shape of moth under the remaining longitude threads. An interfered status of the unborn moth is presented as the broken silk metaphorically. Even some of the threads have been arranged alternatively, the piece of silk remains the same in nature, so does its functionality as an artistic media. Silky texture was then painted on the shape of moth. What was painted does not matter at all. It was all about the motion of painting. Different silky textures have been made because they represent different types of fabric, thus different civilizations. The Series illustrate the human history has been established on killing.
