Oldenburg's experimental style can be seen in the colors and elements that are added and removed in the present five unique proofs. These prints were created by the artist while developing Tongue Cloud over London from 1976. In order to work quickly the artist applied multiple colors at the same time to the copper plate (a printmaking technique known as à la poupée) for a watercolor-like effect.
