Sale Overview
Christie’s February Contemporary Edition Sale presents over 150 post-war and contemporary prints and multiples from artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Ellsworth Kelly and Helen Frankenthaler; and contemporary works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Damien Hirst. With estimates starting under $1,000, the sale features lots for those just beginning their collecting journey and for seasoned enthusiasts alike.
Anchoring the auction are a group of important contemporary prints sold to benefit Studio in a School, a non-profit organization Christie’s has proudly partnered with for years. The top lot of this group is Julie Mehretu’s Achille (epoch) (estimate: $20,000-30,000), with other highlights including an untitled 2022 woodcut by Martin Puryear (estimate: $6,000-8,000) and Skipping Stone by Sarah Sze (estimate: $5,000-7,000). Studio in a School is a pioneering visual arts organization founded by Agnes Gund in 1977 in response to New York City drastically reducing funding for arts education in public schools.
Now nearing its 50th year, Studio in a School continues to foster and support the creative and intellectual development of children across the country. For years, Christie’s has been a proud partner of Studio in a School, supporting the organization in a variety of capacities including hosting annual exhibitions of outstanding artworks created by young artists grades Pre-K - 12 in Studio in a School’s visual arts education programs.
