Lot Essay

This pair of chairs was formerly in the collection at Luttrellstown, the celebrated castle in Ireland purchased by Ernest Guinness (1876-1949) in 1927 for his daughter, The Hon. Mrs. Aileen Plunket (1904-1999). From the 1950s, with the inspired guidance of decorator Felix Harbord, Plunket transformed Luttrellstown’s interiors, acquiring distinguished pieces from notable Country House sales to complement its romantic architecture and storied history.
