Decorated in gold, silver and red hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, and keuchi against a black lacquer ground with dense hirame and kimpun, with a group of five samurai helmets in styles characteristic of the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries; two complete with masks (somen), including a helmet with hoe-shaped horns (kuwagata) and dragon forecrest (maedate), a helmet with coral-branch antlers and further dragon forecrest, another helmet with stag-antler forecrest, and a helmet covered with a simulated cloth hood (nage zukin), details in kimpun, nashiji interiors, risers and rims
