This planter descended in the family of Walter Shubert of Baldwin, New York. He was the superintendent of schools in Baldwin in the early twentieth century and Shubert Elementary School, which was named in his honor and still exists.

Overall excellent condition. Favrile glass mosaic tiles with a few scattered tight hairline cracks, and very minor edgewear, not visually detractive and consistent with age and gentle use. Bronze surfaces with some gentle rubbing, scattered surface scratches and abrasions, consistent with age and gentle use. Period liner with some varied areas of patina, consistent with the natural aging process of the material over time. Liner with punctured holes, consistent with intended use as a planter.
