Lot Essay

Hailing from Xiangshan, Yang Tiefu was a renowned poet from southern Guangdong. He passed the imperial examination in 1901 and the cabinet secretary examination in 1904. Yang then served as a prefecture magistrate in Guangxi province. During the Republican period, he successively served as president of Sun Yat-sen Normal School, dean of Sun Wen College of Beijing Women's Normal University, professor of Guangzhou University of Hong Kong and National University of Hong Kong. He settled in Hong Kong in his later years. Yang studied classical literature and was very knowledgeable in poetry. Throughout his life, he composed and published numerous poetry compilations.

He Jue, named Mengfu, was a native of Shunde, Guangdong province. A collector of Guangdong calligraphy and painting, He later settled in Hong Kong and was accomplished in composing poetry.
