Lot Essay
'Colour is always in a state of fluctuating movement and its complementary colour is always latently present. It is not possible to imagine light without dark, cold with hot, liveliness without stillness, heaviness without lightness. The potential changes implicit in colour vitalise the colour fields. The power of the colour values in the various zones, streams and fields of the picture, is the main determinant of the intensity of the painting' – Raimund Girke

Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas, stretcher and attachments are in generally good condition. There is paper tape in places along the turnover edges. There is a soft diagonal abrasion of circa 5cm. in the lower right quadrant. There is some minor rubbing to the extreme edges and corners. Examination under ultra violet light shows no indication of inpainting. It is our opinion that the work is in good condition.
