Lot Essay

Chen Ziqing, alternatively known as Jiyu, Yuhu, Huyin, Yishan and Zheng Zhen Zi, was born in Shunde, Guangdong. He later moved to the present-day Zhongshan, Guangdong. In 1846, he was awarded First-Degree Scholars in the Imperial Examination. He was good at composing poems and painting landscapes.

Au Chun-hung (1917-1994) was a famous collector of calligraphy and painting in Hong Kong. His studio name is "Xiongzhai". Au had a strong interest in Chinese painting and calligraphy, and knew many artists directly and acquired many important paintings from them.
