The collection belongs to descendants of an influential and progressive intellectual that lived in 20th-century China. He surrounded himself with other intellectuals and thinkers, including but not limited to the artists that make up the collection. All the works were directly gifted from the artists or his intellectual friends, and were kept in the family for nearly one century.
