He graduated from Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou in his early years and later entered politics, serving as secretary to Zheng Yanfen for eighteen years until he left the political arena in 1954. Afterwards, he moved to Hong Kong and founded the China and Foreign Pictorial, which later became today’s China and Foreign Cultural Enterprise Publishing House. During this period, he maintained close ties with literati and scholars from Guangdong and Hong Kong and amassed an extensive collection of calligraphy and paintings, with a particular passion for fan paintings. His Wen Yuan Studio collection includes many masterpieces acquired at great expense. Su also formed deep friendships with many prominent artists of the time and received fans as gifts from them.
