NI TIAN (1855-1919) / LU RUNXIANG (1841-1915)
Camel / Calligraphy
Folding fan, ink and colour / ink on paper
18.6 x 47.8 cm. (7 38 x 18 78 in.)
Camel inscribed and signed by Ni Tian, with one seal
Dated the fifth month, renyin year (1902)
Calligraphy inscribed and signed by Lu Runxiang, with three seal
Both sides dedicated to Zhixuan

NOTE:
Lu Runxiang, alternatively known as Yunsa, Gusou, was born in present-day Suzhou, Jiangsu. He ranked first in the Imperial Examination in 1874, the thirteenth year of Qing Dynasty Emperor Tongzhi. Since then, he successively served as Director of Imperial Academy and Provincial Director of Education in Shan Dong. He was good at calligraphy, especially in Running Script.
