Lot Essay

Wang Shu, alternatively known as Ruolin, Xuzhou, was born in Jintan, Jiangsu. He received the rank of jinshi (Metropolitan Graduate) in the Imperial Examination of 1712, the 51st year of the Qing Dynasty Emperor Kangxi. He once served as Council at the Ministry of Official Personnel. Since his retirement, he had focused on calligraphy practice and earned a national reputation of mastery over all four script types.
