Lot Essay

Master of the Guqin Pavilion mentioned in the colophon was Zhou Monan (1916-1992). A native of Jiao County, Shandong, Zhou studied in the Department of Political Science of Fudan University, and joined the Youth Expeditionary Force in 1944. He served in the Information Bureau of the Ministry of National Defence and the People’s Service Corps. He migrated to Taiwan in 1949 and started his career as an art dealer, and named his studio the Guqin Pavilion. His collection of paintings and calligraphy is enormous.
