A Large Partial Slice of Meteorite (NWA 5000) from the Lunar Highlands
Discovered in Morocco, 2007; modern cutting
This is a superior and very large partial slice of NWA 5000 which is mineralogically and texturally unique among feldspathic lunar meteorites. It also contains large fragments of metal, which can be inferred to be from a meteorite that impacted the lunar surface.
NWA 5000 has proven very popular with collectors as well as research institutions and museums throughout the world, and in anticipation of the foregoing, the “5000” designation for this meteorite was reserved as an honorific.
