Oil on canvas. Not lined. Examined within the frame. Minor frame abrasion from a previous mount. Some lines of drying craquelure from the artist's technique in the thicker impasto white pigments just above the hills and within the hills, and towards the lower edge in the impasto browns and greens where there are some associated small scattered paint losses, visible upon close inspection of the heavily textured surface. A few further fine lines of craquelure elsewhere, including in the sky, with a few associated tiny pinpoint paint losses, a network in a small area towards the lower left, and in a small area within the paler swathe of paint towards the centre left which has a few associated small paint losses. Minor surface dirt with two vertical clear lines of residue towards the lower right, visible under raking light, and some pale moisture remnants and spots of bloom towards the lower edge. Examined under ultra-violet light: there is evidence of retouching to former frame abrasion towards the upper edge and to a few spots in the sky. The hills are very difficult to read, due to the hue and the artist's method. There is some fluorescence to the aforementioned surface dirt but no signs of retouching detected. Subject to the foregoing, it is our opinion that this work appears to be in generally good condition.
