We thank the Fondation Arp, Clamart, for their help cataloguing this work.
I am a doll. but a soul would come well to me why am i not a song why don't I have wings? there is no one who wants to give me at least a silver trail? a silver trail a stream that whispers behind me. my head is made of porcelain on matte a porcelain hat would not be an exaggeration. yes, it would also be necessary than a cross on a bell. I am poor. I follow naked. and what have I not already been promised.
From Jean Arp, Pensieri, poesie, disegni, collages by Sergio Grandini (Lugano, 1976) whereupon the present lot is illustrated alongside the above poem.

Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Paper collage, frottage and pencil on card. Hinged to the mount at the reverse upper corners and at the upper edge with a small associated area of skinning, where the tape has slightly detached the surface of the support. The collage element is securely affixed to the underlying support. Some spots of foxing in the collage element. Very minor stubbing to the lower corners. The reverse with a number of annotations and inscriptions in pencil, and a label attached, from the Succession Jean Arp. Subject to the foregoing, it is our opinion that this work appears to be in generally good condition.
