Lot Essay

Proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit Hastings Contemporary and the Stop MS Appeal.

Hastings Contemporary is a public gallery and one of the cultural centres of the South East of England. During lockdown, it has hosted a series of innovative virtual tours of its exhibitions through the eye of a robot, which would in normal times allows disabled art lovers, who might be unable to visit the gallery, to have access to the arts. This interactive experience is now available to all, visible on the gallery’s website https://www.hastingscontemporary.org/exhibition/robot-tours/ The support of these artists, as well as those who will take part in a selling exhibition to support the gallery later in the year, will ensure that Hastings remains one of the artistic hubs of the region.

The Stop MS Appeal has already established itself as an astonishing success in raising over £50 million in just five years. While there have been great advances in the advances in the creation of drugs to suppress the less aggressive “relapsing” Multiple Sclerosis, there are none available for the progressive forms which see a build-up of disability with no relapses in the symptoms. This results in the lives of sufferers being significantly shortened by this appalling condition. For more information on the Appeal, visit https://www.mssociety.org.uk/get-involved/fundraise/stop-ms

With your generous bidding, we will be able to provide a more certain future for the endeavours of these two remarkable charities.
