The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Oil on canvas. Examined out of the frame. There is some planar distortion to the canvas, consistent with thick application of paint on both sides. There are some scattered hairline cracks, predominantly towards the edges of the canvas, these appear stable and secure. There is some paint separation in places, predominantly in the darker pigments, which also appears to be stable. When examined under ultraviolet light, there are some scattered fine lines of fluorescence that correspond to the aforementioned hairline cracks. There are some further areas of fluorescence in the red pigment to the right of the composition, and a few spots to the extreme edges. There is a layer of varnish that has slightly discoloured with age. On close inspection, there is some minor surface dirt. Subject to the above, this work appears to be in good overall condition.
