The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The painting presents well on the wall and is in ready to hang condition. The original canvas has been relined with a second canvas on the reverse, which is providing even structural support. The paint surface is a little abraded in areas, for example in the blues of the Virgin’s robe. Examination under ultra-violet light reveals the remains of an old degraded varnish, which has been partially cleaned, as well as scattered strengthenings to the composition and some old repaired damages, including: an area in the background to the right of the Virgin; an old damage to the Virgin’s nose and one in Her hair.
