The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas has been subject to a strict relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. The reverse of the canvas has been lined with paper. Examination in natural light shows a fine pattern of craquelure across the paint surface. There has been some slight thinning to the darker tones lower left. Examination in UV light reveals some hairline retouching to the craquelure and some minor retouching to the darker tones lower left. The modelling of the composition remains fully appreciable and the paint surface is stable.
