The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This painting is in a good overall state of preservation, with the artist’s detail and technique remaining highly appreciable. The relined canvas is held under tension and remains structurally stable. In raking light, surface abrasion can be seen to the darker tones of the landscape due to the natural thinning of the paint over time, with some scattered restoration in the centre of the picture, particularly in the lower quadrant of the canvas. Ultraviolet examination confirms the above and reveals some isolated scattered restoration to the sky and landscape.
