Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This single piece panel is even and remains stable. The paint has been applied in thin glazes in the background, with increased density of texture in the highlights and lighter details. Evidence of natural ageing is evident in the increased transparency of the thinnest tints, with impasto elements still highly appreciable in elements of the landscape. Ultraviolet light reveals a thick obscuring varnish, with isolated scattered restoration, also to some small historic isolated losses. Minor restoration is visible in the highlights of the whites. The drawing and an impression of the artist’s technique remains appreciable.
