The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

From a viewing distance, this painting appears to be in a good state of preservation with drawing, modelling and dramatic tonal qualities evident. The canvas has been relatively recently relined, maintains a good tension and remains structurally stable. On very close inspection, it is possible to see a degree of light abrasion, some of which is strengthened with retouching. Ultra-violet light inspection confirms the afore mentioned small, scattered retouching to the thinner paint, and reveals some restoration near the edges.
