The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This small relined canvas is held under tension and remains structurally stable. There is a minor thinning of the paint due to natural ageing, however the artist’s painterly technique remains highly appreciable. In raking light, minor restoration can be seen in the lower left corner, as well as a small more superficial scratch to the varnish in the same area, and some scratches along the right-hand side associated with frame wear. Ultraviolet examination reveals more extensive restoration throughout the lower centre and further scattered restoration throughout the canvas.
