Christo’s entry for the large portfolio Hommage à Picasso illustrates his project to wrap Sylvette, Picasso large public sculpture at the corner of Bleecker street and Houston street in lower Manhattan. This is just one example of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s proposals to encase large monuments and buildings in tarps and plastic sheets. Christo began his artistic career in Paris by wrapping everyday objects with irregularly tied ropes to create that hamper the function and obscure the appearance of different objects. Christo’s prints simultaneously propose and commemorate these imagined or fully realized ephemeral installations.
