Lot Essay

Josef Levi’s abstractions force the viewer to consider their own perceptual relationship to works of art, due to their lack of clear lines and mutable surfaces. Influenced by artworks with religious or talismanic purposes, Levi, modernist approach supplements his manual work with a number of mechanical techniques to obfuscate his works. This suite of works uses differently colored Benday dots arranged in optically intriguing patterns.
