Lot Essay

This intriguing watercolour bears a resemblance to the early work of William Havell, who made a sketching tour in North Wales in 1802 with John (1778-1842) and Cornelius Varley (1781-1873), Joshua Cristall (1767-1847), and the architect and geologist Thomas Webster (1773-1844).
