Lot Essay

This drawing of a contemplative figure appears to have been part of an album to which both Fuseli and his friend James Northcote (1746-1831) contributed, while both were in Italy in 1777. See G. Schiff, Johann Heinrich Füssli, 1741-1825, 1973 , I, p. 84 , and II, p. 602 .
