Lot Essay

Müller embarked on a seven month sketching tour of Europe in July 1834, accompanied by George Arthur Fripp (1813-1893). They travelled through Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Italy, reaching Venice at the end of September 1834, and staying there for nearly two months. Many of the sketches he made there were taken from gondolas.
