Lot Essay

William Linnell worked and studied in Italy in the 1860s, but spent most of his working life in Surrey, where his father John Linnell (see lot 128) had built a large house at Redstone Wood. William Linnell exhibited landscapes both from around Surrey and other parts of the United Kingdom, at the Royal Academy from 1851-1891.
