Lot Essay
In 1964, two years after finishing his studies in painting at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste in West Berlin, the twenty-six year old Georg Baselitz started to experiment with printmaking. The formative experience of growing up during the Second World War had a profound impact on his artistic œuvre, and the theme of destruction is a recurring theme in his work. The present work is part of Baselitz’ print series “Remix”, in which the artist deliberately references and reinterprets work he has created in the past, actively starting a dialogue with his own œuvre. Post Lot Text Artist's Resale Right Regulations 2006 apply to this lot. You must pay us an extra amount equal to the resale royalty and we will pay the royalty to the appropriate authority. Please see the Conditions of Sale for further information.
