Lot Essay

The modern master of netsuke carving, Soko was born in Fujimae-cho, Tokyo in 1879. He became a pupil of Miyazaki Joso when he was 15 years old and learnt netsuke carving for 14 years under Joso. Soko was especially acclaimed for the realistic and delicate style of netsuke carving.
