Settling an overdue financial matter, and planning a visit to his uncle.
Einstein's old friend Albert Karr has passed on a letter from Paul Winteler which is already a year old. Its contents delighted him: there is no need for them however to return the 1,000 francs, as 'I can earn it more easily than you'. He refers jokingly to some 'lady pensioners' who are coming shortly, and who would suit the Wintelers, 'better than young girls, whose heads are still full of big ideas [die noch viel Rosinen im Kopf haben]'. He is in Lucerne as he has been invited to the Swiss Naturvorscher-Versammlung; then he goes to see their uncle Caesar Koch, and thence on to Leiden.
