Working, sailing – and a visit from a girlfriend.

Einstein has lost the will to write: 'I do not dare now to write any more, as it just doesn't come to me. But just in case... '. He is back in good health, 'inasmuch as a weed does not spoil [sintemal Unkraut nicht verdirbt]' and continues to sail 'alongside my eternal calculating and the awful reading of news', which he does with a mixture of trepidation and loathing. His secretary Helene Dukas is waiting with a pile of letters for him to answer ...

Margot's long letter, to which this is a postscript, sends news of their health, of their summer house in Long Island, where the landscape reminds them of the Berlin area, of Einstein's activities ('Albert sails every day. This is, next to his work, his only passion') and of the visit over the summer from Margarete Lebach (a wealthy Austrian, with whom Einstein is thought to have had an affair some years previously).
