Lot Essay

A postcard from Japan.

'People and art of great delicacy and finesse. Not as mysterious as Hearn sees them, but sensitive and natural with it'. His host, J. Ishihara, is delightful, and also a poet.

Einstein's reference is to the Irish-American author Lafcadio Hearn, who wrote on Japanese subjects.
