Paperback edition of a collection of Hawking's essays and lectures, 'signed' with authorial thumbprint. The book is mainly concerned with the makeup of black holes, and discusses black hole thermodynamics, special and general relativity, and quantum mechanics. The preliminary chapters are biographical, and the book concludes with the transcription of Hawking's interview on the BBC's Desert Island Discs.

Octavo (198 x 123mm). Paperback reprint edition in the original publisher's illustrated wrappers (extremities faintly rubbed). Provenance: 'signed' with an authorial thumbprint on title – the estate of Professor Stephen Hawking.
