Hawking's own copy of the Nuffield Workshop of 1982. The papers are by 29 different authors (one by Hawking), discussing the nature of the beginning of the universe, with a particular emphasis on the concept of an inflationary universe.

Octavo (228 x 150mm). Publisher's black cloth (extremities faintly rubbed). Provenance: Stephen Hawking (ownership inscription in another hand on front free endpaper) – Royal Institution (manuscript note from the RI Librarian loosely inserted thanking Hawking for the loan of the book).
