The surface is stable and there is an even loose craquelure. There is an even yellowed layer of varnish. The canvas is glue relined. Under UV light inspection, there is retouching at the extreme edges to address frame abrasion. There are lines of retouching in the head and shoulder of the cow at right and in and around the cows at left. In the sky above the cows at left, there are lines of retouching to address paint separation. In the sky at center, there are areas and lines of retouching including a two inch wide area just above the mountains and approximately eight inch long vertical lines to address lines from the vertical stretcher bar.
