The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The surface is stable and the canvas has been wax relined. The reline leaves an approximately quarter inch margin between the painted surface and outside edge. There is minor surface dirt present and there are a few pin point sized dots of a light particulat, possibly paint, visible in the upper half. Under UV light inspection, there is retouching along the extreme edges to address frame abrasion. There are small areas of retouching in the curtain, particularly along the left most draped fold, and in the background. There are areas and touches of inpainting in the hair. In the face, chest and hands there are carefully applied dots and dashes of retouching. There are scattered small areas of retouching in the sleeves, in particular a one and a half inch area at the top of the proper left sleeve and a half inch by one inch area just above the proper right hand. There is retouching in the background underneath the proper left arm and areas of horizontal inpainting in the lower levels of the stone work close to the lower edge and lower right corner.
