Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
We are grateful to Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. for preparing the following condition report (written communication February 27, 2020): This work has a thin old lining. The gesso and paint layer are quite heavy, and the lining was probably applied to stabilize the cracking. While the paint layer is stable, the cracking is quite raised throughout, particularly in the sky. The work seems to have been fairly recently cleaned and varnished. No retouches are visible under ultraviolet light. There is no abrasion to the paint layer, and the condition seems to be excellent overall.
