The canvas is wax lined. There are a few areas of pigment separation, predominately in the center of the composition. The surface is slightly dirty. Upon inspection under UV light, the work appears to have been selectively cleaned. There are a few small dots and lines of retouching at the extreme edges. There is a pindot of inpainting in the white bonnet on the child and two small pindots of inpainting in the background behind the seated boy.
