The canvas is unlined and the surface is stable. There is surface dirt present. There is minor scuffing at the extreme upper and left edges and scuffing on the extreme right and lower edges due to frame abrasion. There are areas of paint separation in the lower center and lower right parts of the canvas. There are sparse areas of craquelure in the middleground and center foreground. Under UV light inspection, the varnish and surface dirt make it difficult to detect retouches. There is possible retouching in a small area above the arch underneath the tower and a small area in the ground to the left of the figures.
